Chapter # 956 South River HS, Edgewater, MD

SRHS Seahawks admitted and induced 17 members Spring of 2015, bringing our membership to 40 strong. This was our first ever formal induction ceremony. Since our chapter's inception in May 2013, the chapter has 46 alumni.

School year 2013-2014
1. streamlined an application process for membership after considering students' feedback (Sept 2013).
2. created chapter by-laws (Oct 2013)
3. admitted new members (about 30) and elected officers (Nov 2013)
4. formed collaboration with Central Elementary at Edgewater, MD (Jan 2014)
4a. members assisted elementary students with their science fair projects (Jan to Feb 2014)
4b. members assisted with the school level science fair (Mar 2014).
4c. members sponsored and hosted a day of STEM awareness called Science Day (June 2014)
5. Members attended a talk by Dr. Mary Cleave, a retired astronaut, from the Nifty fifty Program (http://www.usasciencefestival.org/schoolprograms/niftyfifty.html).
6. Sent well-wishes to 5 alumni with graduation cords (May 2014).

School year 2014-2015
1. admitted new members (about 15) (Oct 2014)
2. continue collaboration with Central Elementary at Edgewater, MD (on-going)
3a. members assisted elementary students with their science fair projects (Jan to Feb 2015)
3b. members assisted with the school level science fair (Mar 2015).

5a. Members attended a talk by Dr. Jordan Green, Nanobiotechnology Researcher at Johns Hopkins University, from the Nifty fifty Program (http://www.usasciencefestival.org/schoolprograms/niftyfifty.html) (Oct 2014).
5b. Members attended a talk by Dr. Roco on Nanotechnology (http://www.nsf.gov/staff/staff_bio.jsp?lan=mroco&org=NSF&from_org) (Feb 2015)
6. Sent well-wishes to 41 alumni via a pinning and gradation cord ceremony (May 2015).
7. Elected officers for 2015-2016 (May 2015)
8. Made plans to form collaboration with another local elementary to further promote STEM awareness in the community.
