Sivaram Arepalli

 

Sivaram Arepalli is a Staff Scientist at G. B. Tech., Inc. and works at NASA Johnson Space Center in the Materials and Manufacturing Division. He got his Ph. D. in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur in 1978. He did postdoctoral work at UPenn, Cornell and UIC before joining Lockheed at Houston in 1987. He developed the laser laboratory to support the aerothermal fluid flow analysis for thermal protection material development at NASA-Johnson Space Center. His current activities focus on nanotechnology and include the production, processing and applications of carbon nanotubes in composite materials.

He is very actively involved in improving science awareness in school children. He worked as a science coordinator for American Physical Society and Lockheed Martin for Houston Science and Engineering Fair for the last five years. He also served as a judge in the local Science Fairs for the last twelve years. Participated in local school PTAs and clubs to improve children's education as well as extra-curricular activities. Responsible for starting the chess club at Clear Lake Intermediate School and served on several booster clubs (Latin, Tennis, Orchestra, etc.) at Clear Lake and Clear Brook high schools.

Sivaram is a Senior Member of APS and AIAA and is currently the "chair-elect" for the AIAA Houston section. He received "Chairman's Award" for 1999 from G. B. Tech. and is nominated for "Rotary Stellar Award for Space".

His wife Swaraj Sivaram is an Information Analyst for Equiva Services. Their daughter, Saumya Sivaram is a Senior at Rice Univeristy and son, Saujan Sivaram is a Junior at Clear Brook high school.
