A results oriented professional, Ms.
Chesnut has varied and extensive management expertise gained from a long
term career with the IBM Corporation, and owning and operating her own
management and technology consulting firm. During her career with IBM, Ms.
Chesnut mastered management skills and developed business skills in
mutiple areas including: human resources, technology (computer hardware
and software, and telephone systems), marketing sales, accounting (fixed
asset and inventory controls, accounts receiveable, general ledger and
accounts payable, budgeting and forecasting, business trend analysis,
advertising, direct marketing, telemarketing. She attended over 1040 hours
of classroom training and receive many awards acknowledging excellent
performance. Having retired from IBM, Ms. Chesnut began her own company.
Since that time, Ms. Chesnut's has developed a team of associates who
incorporate technology as tools for achieving business solutions. Chesnut
and Associates, focuses on business development, marketing, and
manaagement. Because of the diverse and cost efficient potential afforded
by current technology, Chesnut and Associates often incorporates
multimedia and web-based solutions as vehicles for clients' to address
training and marketing needs, as well as to provide faster, more
comprehensive instruments forfunctional analysis.
Ms.Chesnut is often invited to address business, educational and community organizations to speak on such topics as: Technology and Business Trends, Career Opportunities, Enhancing Selling Skills, Legislation, Americans with Disabilities Act, Special Education, and Community Concerns. She has been a guest instructor at local colleges and universities, businesses, and community forums. She is a published author of articles for newspapers, magazines, trade publications and technical books. Drawn to help people with disabilities, Ms. Chesnut developed and directed the television series, "Focus on Abilities" in 1992. The program is on the Houston Municipal Channel and is sponsored by the Mayor's Committee for Employment of People with Disabilities. During it's second year, the series received the distinguished Martha Arbuckel Award granted by the Texas Governors' Committee under then Governor Ann Richards. Ms. Chesnut has been a member and held office in many community-based organizations. During her membership with the Houston Mayor's Committee for Employment of People with Disabilities, she held the office of Chairman of the Public Information Committee. As a representative for IBM, Ms. Chesnut participated in the Loaned Executive Program with the United Way and successfully lead two Special Gifts Campaings. She was Chairman of the Board of the Career Resource Center of Kingwood for more than 4 years and was an active member of the Center for over 7 years. As an active member of the Kingwood Republican Women, Ms. Chesnut initiated and was publisher and editor of the monthly newsletter, and held the office of Publicity and Information Chairperson. In 1994 Ms. Chesnut was elected to the Harris County Department of Education Board of Trustees. She was re-elected in the 2000 election and serves as Vice President of the Board. She is a member of the Department's Audit Committee and is Chairperson of the Planning Committee. She is an advocate for children with disabilities and works with schools and parents on behalf of students with learning and physical challenges. |
